A SMET2 smart meter is required for exporting back to the grid. Please contact your metering company and arrange this to be changed before taking any of the steps below. If you already have a SMET2 meter please see below.

Step One - After Installation 

Once your installation is complete and commissioned within 7 days we will register it on the MCS database and a certificate will be issued. We also notify your local DNO (Northern Power Grid) that the installation is now connected and generating. The DNO will then send a letter confirming they accept the installation.

Please note - This can take between 2-6 weeks and is something Urbn Solar have no control over.

If you are moving over to Octopus Energy please visit their website to get your account switch started.  The switching process is extremely easy. Please make sure you switch onto their normal tariff and not a fixed tariff. Once Octopus has accepted you as a new customer you can change onto a specific solar and battery tariff.

Step Two – Notifying your Energy Provider

Once we have confirmation from the DNO and your MCS certificate you must speak with your energy supplier and arrange to have an export account setup. If you have moved over to Octopus Energy then please visit this link https://octopus.energy/smart/outgoing and complete the details including uploading a copy of the requested documents.

Step Three – Export Account

Your energy supplier will then request and export MPAN from your DNO (Northern Power Grid). This process can take between 1-6 weeks depending on how busy they are. Please note – This is something Urbn Solar have no control over.

Once an export account has been created your energy supplier will contact you to confirm and you can then start getting paid for the energy you put back into the grid.

Step Four – Tariff’s

Research into the tariffs is always advised as something that works for one client may not work for another. We recommend Octopus Energy’s Flux tariff as a general all-rounder. If you would like any further information on tariffs speak with your energy provider or contact us and we will advise based on your usage.
